that might be a bit of a problem in somewhere like london for example, where
there ain't really any woods around.
personally, as I love my open water swimming, a guide seaLion would suit me a
lot better.
for the more land based stuff, I wish I could use my horse Lizzie, as I could
ride her as well, so she would be both my guide, and transport.
think that may be a bit of a problem when needing to go somewhere by train
though.

  Now that’s a cool thought,

  A gide bear!

No one would give you trouble when they see that walking the streets with you.

And bears shit in the woods!

Yes, we call them dinner bells (as a joke of course because they do work).
Then of course there is the pepper spray which if your are unlucky the bear
will take away from you and use it for seasoning 🤣

Fortunately most bears aren't all that interested in eating you although
there are exceptions, Mummy bears of course may decide to take you out if you
accidently got too close to their babies and they think you are a thread and
there are sometimes simply bears which are aggressive and which for the most
part havde lost their natural fear of humans because they have gotten too used
to us and those are usually the ones which are more dangerous.

My wife and I went for a walk on the trails around our town last fall and we
came around a bend and here was my yellow lab running full out towards a black
bear probably thinking that he looked like a good playmate. My previous dog
seemed to have his natural instincts a lot more and he always alerted me when
there was a bear or moose nearby. Anyways, the bear fortunately was not
aggressive and probably had eaten plenty of salmon in order to fatten himself
up for the long sleep ahead, I yelled at my dog and he braked to a stop a foot
or two in front of the bear and then came back. I started yelling and we backed
up and all was well, but even though we had just passed a group of people maybe
a hundred yards further back this is not an encounter I need too often because
it could have gone either way.

  Best regards,

  Sieghard

I heard the author Bill Bryson in person once, and he was telling about his
adventures and the warnings he received from the outdoor equipment store
salesperson about walking through bear country.

Salesperson: Make lots of noise. Wearing bells is a good way to do that.

Bill: O, that explains all the little bells I saw in the bear poop on the
trail.

First of all there are only two types of bears here, Black Bears and Grizzly
Bears. The Brown Bear used to live in Europe where it is largely extinct.

Secondly it is pointless to try and run from any bear because no human alive
can outrun one, over a short distance a bear can run as fast as a horse.

Thirdly, no bear will ever chase me on an icy hill because both species crawl
into a den around mid or late October and then sleep until early to mid April,
I guess they don't like the snow and the cold either.

Hey just so long as if they video you or say myself banging in to things,

They give us the url to go check out the video so we can laugh at ourselves
as well.

  Mind you,

You have bigger issues during winter than we do here in NZ,

I’d like to hear / see the video of you running from a brown bear on an icie
street / hill,

That could be rather funny so long as the bear doesn’t get you.

I just don’t care if people stare at me or not. If they wanna make me that
important and take the time to stare at me that’s fine. Stay safe

be free of any judgment, but that’s not the case. if you’re at a place where
nothing truly bothers you I envy that, but I also don’t like the attitude I’ve

never a waste of time.

be embarrassed about whatever it is they need to be independent. This would be
like somebody in a wheelchair being embarrassed that they have to use a
wheelchair or somebody with a hearing aid being embarrassed they need one of
those. How about people who lost a limb and have a prosthetic arm or leg,
should they be embarrassed?

The fact is that we all are who we are and if you are embarrassed by the
cane then where does that stop? Would you be embarrassed if you had to wear
thick glasses and how about that future super backpack, people will still know
that you are blind and the smart, high-tech content of said backpack will
require all sorts of sensors and cameras to function which maybe more or less
noticeable by others. And in any case, what do I care what others think? Maybe
I care to a degree when it comes to people close to me, but if I were walking
down the street and a bunch of idiots were openly pointing at me and laughing
their heads off because of my cane then I would maybe pity them, but I sure
wouldn't feel embarrassed by it.
