With the instructions it kind of works, but it is not really fun to reinvent
the wheel for interacting with the game.

I wrote back and thanked Eric for his prompt response, and suggested that they
add phonetics to reading by letter. I suggested that if people don’t like the
extra pronouncement that having the phonetics be a toggle in settings.

Thanks for this information. I just wrote to the developer as well because the
game is certainly unplayable as it is. If they are building a self-voicing
option, that would probably be terrible for deafblind folks who use a braille
display to play the game, so I brought that up as well. I'll let you know what
they say.

best,

Anna

Hi Alison,

Yes indeed this is definitely an update that broke things. I wrote to Blue Ox
Family Games, the developer of 7 Little words, and below is the response I
received:

Hi Debby,
The latest version of 7 Little Words does use a slightly different version of
Voice Over which allows us to extend this game across both the iOS and Android
platforms. As such, there are some modifications and we realize we have done a
poor job of communicating them and are rushing a build out to remedy this.

First off, here are the touch commands for navigating the game board for each
puzzle:

* swipe right and left to advance through the screen elements as before, but
now you can swipe down and up to jump between the major screen sections (back
button, clues, answer/spelling, tiles)

* use a two finger tap to switch between reading by word or letter and two
finger swipe to advance through each clue

* when you select a tile as part of an answer, you remain in the tile section,
which should reduce the number of swipes you need

To note, the two-finger tap to switch the reading by word or letter will be
switched to a three-finger tap in the next build as it sometimes caused
confusion with the two-finger swipe.

We have hired a blind accessibility contractor to help us make it as accessible
as possible but we greatly appreciate your feedback on how we can do this
better. Your feedback on the click noise for each move is something I will get
addressed in a forthcoming build, so that if you decide to turn off the "sound
effects" in the game, it will turn off this clicking sound as you swipe through
the board.

Please let us know if this is helpful and again appreciate any additional
feedback you might have.

Eric

I have always enjoyed this word puzzled game on my iPhone but the recent
changes are really making it frustrating to play. The enhancements make it much
slower and it also seems to jump about. Is anyone else having better luck than
me?
