Have you tried going into Bluetooth settings on your phone and forgetting the airpods?
I don't have this issue since I have a Windows computer. If I want to use the pods, for example on my Mac mini, I will get a message, or a phone call, or an alarm will go off on my iPhone, and the connection automatically goes to the iPhone. I have looked in settings on both phone and computer and I hope I'm missing something, because I would really like to prevent this from happening.
