Terri:

I have used the Phillips Hue Smart Bulbs (A19) in 5 of my lamps and/or pendant
lights. I found their app to be pretty accessible. Using these bulbs required
the purchase of a hub to be connected to my modem/router before linking it to
my Alexa (2nd edition). Since then, I have updated my Alexa to the 4th edition
which I believe has it's own integrated hub that may negate the need for the
Phillips Hub. I haven't pursued that yet. The bulbs I bought are dimmable and
work well with the Alexa. It's pretty cool to tell Alexa to dim my kitchen
island lights to 30% or 100% ... or even all the way down to 10%. Of course,
this only works if others in my home would stop turning off the light switch.
Alexa can't turn on the island lights if the switch is turned off. With regard
to the one bulb I put in my Mom's reading lamp, that one won't dim up/down in
intensity since the lamp is older and doesn't allow for dimmable bulbs. All we
can do there is have Alexa turn it on or off. Furthermore, I also use Amazon
plugs that are pretty cool since they work to turn on/off any device that's
plugged into it. I use them most extensively for our Christmas tree and other
decor that lighted up. This year I had them set to turn off the tree and other
lighted decor by simply saying ... "Alexa ... Merry Christmas." I even had
Alexa play Silent Night when we had her turn off te Christmas Tree at night.

In the past, I purchased TP Plugs but didn't like their accessibility or ease
(or lack of ease) in configuring them. Maybe they've update things since then.
I have also bought GE light switches that are supposed to be configurable with
Alexa but I haven't succeeded in getting them configured. I'm told that maybe
they don't work with my type of recessed lighting. Either that ... or my
brother failed to use a particular adapter that was supposed to be installed
when the switches were installed. But, I also found the GE app not all that
accessible ... or just a bit confusing.

Hope that helps some.

Melanie
