Your VoiceOver volume got turned all the way down. Flick up with two fingers to start VoiceOver reading from the top of the screen and start tapping the volume up button until you get the volume where you want it.
Then, make sure that under Settings, Sounds and Haptics, the Change with Buttons is set to off.
