You can go to Control Center by placing focus on something in the top status line such as time and then doing a 3 finger swipe up. You can then single finger swipe right to get to Focus to ensure it is not turned on. When Do not disturb is turned on here, you will still receive notifications but they won’t be announced by Voiceover when they come in. You’ll have to place focus on the status line and do a 3 finger swipe down to access your notifications.
