The main difference between the echo dot and the other echo units is size and sound quality.
I have the Echo show 5. It has excellent sound quality. It does have the camera and if you hold something up to it and ask Alexa what it is, it will do a good job in telling you. Note, there has to be Wi-Fi in the house. There are a fair number of commands to learn, but I think just asking Alexa for help in how to ask it things results in some good help. I think the Echo Show 5 was about $70? There are newer models of course but you can get her something that will sound good and be loud enough if her hearing is getting less acute for well under $100. Someone will need to set it up for her of course. I still do not need one for myself but my Mom who is 89 this year and is not very tech savvied has lost almost all of her sight and doesn't want to use VO or talkback on her phone. I am thinking of getting one of these because after demoing giving voice commands to my Iphone she is now interested in doing something similar but not to her phone. Her occupational therapist has convinced her that devices like echos and echo dots are more accurate and would work better for her. She says this is based on her experience as an OT. My question is this, which devices seem the most forgiving for less than perfect speech when giving voice commands? We also do not want to spend a ton of money in case this doesn't work out well for her. Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated. -- Dan Beaver (KA4DAN) -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
