Hi. Yes you can use Siri to send a text message. If the person is in your contacts, do the following. Hold the button to summons siri. Say, send message to, followed by the name of the person, for instance, send message to Jack Sprat. Siri will come back and say, what would you like to say, Speak your message. Siri will come back an repeat the message followed by, would you like to send it? Say yes and the message will be sent.
Remember, when using siri it is important to wait for the ding before speaking. Good luck.
