Doesn't that speak the phonetic alphabet word a couple seconds after
speaking the letter, like "A, several seconds pause, Alpha?" I'd like it
to be in phonetic spell mode until I turn it off, not just moving
through the word and having to wait after hearing each individual
letter. For example, I'd like to toggle phonetic spelling on, then hear
"Tango hotel echo" as I move through the word, not "t, pause, tango,h,
pause, hotel, e, pause, echo." Is that a feature?

Go to voiceover settings and scroll till you hear typing. Tap on that and
select phonetic feedback. Make sure it’s set to characters and phonetics.
