Hi Esther and all. I think it’s important to match the voice with what we think it is. I’ve been using Eloquence since Henter-Joyce released it for JAWS, and I don’t remember one named Perfect Paul. I do remember that voice with Dec Talk, whether the hardware hooked to a PC, Dec Talk Access 32, which was software based, or even Text Assist, which was part of the Sound Blaster cards. All of those had a voice called Perfect Paul.
If you want to hear what that voice sounds like, there’s an easy way to do it. Just look for stuff where Stephen Hawking is talking. He’s using a computer voice to do so, because ALS made it impossible for him to speak. He used a thing called a Liberator, where he used a head pointer to point to a certain symbol on a screen. He’d blink to let the system know it was what was wanted, then a voice would speak for him. The think that generated the speech was a Dec Talk Express, and his voice of choice was Perfect Paul. Pink Floyd, in their song Keep Talking sampled that voice in their song. Also, the band Kraftwerk used it as well in the song Techno Pop. Just some things I know that might help all know if we’re talking about the same voice or not.
