Oops! I have no idea how that came from my old email address. My only excuse is
that I’m not all that used to using outlook yet. Hope this one comes from the
correct Gmail address.

Subject: clarification regarding deleting text messages

I thought I would clarify something I said regarding text messages when we were
having the VoiceOver bug before updating to iOS 16.0.2. I kind of added the
comment as a kind of addition to my VO issue, so perhaps it wasn't noticed all
that much, but I figured I would correct things just in case.

If memory serves, I had said that I had rebooted one of my phones when I
deleted a text message on my other phone, as that was the only way I could get
the one unread message badge to disappear on the phone on which I had not
deleted the message. That was indeed true as far as it went, but when I thought
about it more, I finally figured out my issue.

As you may recall, not having a separate internet service, I have two cell
phone lines, and I have it set to have the text messages sent to each number
also forwarded to the other number. And in the past, when I deleted a message
on one, it would also delete on the other phone, even if I saw enough of the
message, or sometimes the entire message depending on its length, such that I
knew what was in the message and thus could just delete the message without
actually having to open it.

With iOS 16, though, to make that badge go away on the phone where I haven't
read and deleted the message, I do actually have to open the message on the
other phone before I delete it. Then when I open a message on one phone, then
that unread badge also goes away on the other phone.

Oh, and one more thing while I'm at it. You know how you get that report as
junk prompt when you delete a message? If I delete the text on the phone to
which it was actually sent, then I do indeed get that prompt. However, should I
opt to delete the message on the phone to which it was forwarded, although the
message goes away just the same on both phones, I don't get the report as junk
prompt when deleting from that other phone.

Hope this all makes sense, and of course I do have text messages turned on in
iCloud.
