My favorite method now is to do a one finger triple tap on the App Store icon.
That brings up the context menu. Flick right to updates. Double tap. ON this screen, touch near the bottom of the screen to find where it says something like personalized updates or something. Now, refresh the screen with a three finger flick down. >From the personalize line flick right a few times and you will get into the >available updates, if any.
