Steve, I am using the vootoo drive it is a 512gb flashdrive with both a lightning and usb plug on it. I had to install the ydisk software to use it, but as soon as I plug the drive in the ydisk software detects it and loads the base information from the flashdrive. The software has a backup tab which allows you to backup both your contacts and photo library. The buttons are not clearly labeled as buttons but it is fairly obvious which the buttons are. When the backup is done, the software displays a complete message. Each time I backup my photos it just adds to the backup/myphotos folder.
The software also provides a file browser for the flashdrive so you can put other files on the drive and access them from your iOS device. I am certain there must be a way to copy files from teh flashdrive onto the iOS device I just haven't tried to figure that out. I am no longer seeing the flashdrive on amazon unfortunately.
