Hi James,  You should go to Settings, Face ID and Passcode and become familiar with the various settings found within that screen. At the top is a heading Use Face ID for and the first item under it is Unlock iPhone. Otherwise, Face ID is probably going to continue to misfire and end up disabling itself after 5 failed attempts that I didn’t want to be attempts. Again, if I’m missing something obvious feel free to whap me upside the head with it.
