The issue with the sleep timer was discovered during the beta testing. It was introduced at the very end of the beta testing cycle when addressing another issue that had to do with your place jumping around when fast forwarding and rewinding while playing a book. It was determined that this was the lesser of the two bugs, and it was important to get the new features out, such as searching for books with the programming interface and not just dumping people into the web site. I wasn't happy with this bug escaping the beta cycle, but given the alternatives, I was OK with this decision.
