That's only just started happening in 16.2, at least for me. The bright side is now I have a 100% reliable method of hitting the status bar. I ended up adding a battery widget to my lock screen because I got sick and tired of trying to check my battery in the status bar and missing. If I didn't just buy a pair of air pods, I could remove that widget now.
