They have 2 type of buttons for clothing. One is just like a normal button that you find on a shirt that has 2 button holes.  These would have to be sown on.  The packs of these buttons come with thread and other things needed for the sowing. The second, is about the size of a nickel and has a single hole in the center.  You can use a safety pin to attach them to your clothing.  Since I do not sew, this is what I personally use.
