My wife bought a new car with the latest CarPlay and I've noticed that when she gets directions using Apple Maps, it is far more descriptive than it used to be. I am starting to prefer Apple Maps over Google Maps because of this. So, I would suggest giving Apple Maps a try if you are on at least iOS 16.3.1. I don't know when the updates were done in Apple Maps, but it is certainly improved quite a bit.
