iPhones are notorious for not recognizing a new SIM card from a different carrier or doing it partially. I solved this problem by factory resetting my iPhone. When it restarted, it worked as it normally should. The bummer here is in restoring data. Music is not saved to iCloud so it will be necessary to connect the iPhone to a computer for an iTunes synch.
