Wow! What a wonderful use of the level app.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, Malcolm.

Mark’s interesting post reminded me of my mechanical weight driven cuckoo clock.

Perhaps some of you will already know for the clock to continue to run it has
to be vertical or it will stop between five to and the hour. The chins that
are attached to the weights have to be exactly vertical.

After some trial and error and not getting the clock to work I used the level
on my iPhone to set it up. It worked perfectly well for years and the level
came in handy again when I moved house.

Mark,

This was very interesting with excellent detail about the iOS Level app. I
suspect that even with a perfectly level washer, you will experience occasions
especially when laundering bed linens, blankets, and towels that they will get
out of balance in your washer causing it to shake, rattle, and roll and
necessitating that you simply open the lid and redistribute everything evenly.
Of course, you are free to revisit the level project again if you have that
time available.

Hello Everyone,

I have been meaning to post to the list for quite a while but time just keeps
slipping away.

Anyway, a while back, my top-loading washer began doing the walk of shame
across the floor during the high-speed portion of the spin cycle. Now It was
not doing this every spin cycle but only when I had the basket loaded with
heavy bedding.

Anyway, again with that time slipping away thing, I let it go on for far too
long.

Finally, one day, I decided to either resolve the problem on my own or hire
someone to do it for me.

Of course, I knew that the problem was that the machine needed to be leveled as
it had been over 4 years since its installation into my home.

The thing is, to the naked eye, the unit looked pretty much level; at least it
did to all of the sighted people I consulted; not professionals, just friends.

Finally, I remembered that my beloved 14 Pro Max has a native level app. I
discovered that the laundry room floor dips off by about 1 degree as one
approaches the center of the room. You really can't tell by standing on the
floor because it only reaches that 1 degree at the very center.

Anyway, after practicing with the level for a day or so with various surfaces
around my house, one day I began leveling the washer, by myself; even though it
is generally a 2-man job.

With the help of the iOS level app, I was able to get the washing machine level
after about 15 minutes or so. I was truly impressed at how sensitive the
device was to even the slightest changes in a surface angle.

After 15 minutes or so, I took my final measurements and the machine was
perfectly level from every angle I could think of to measure.

Now, even with the heaviest loads in the basket, the walk of shame has stopped.

What a wonderful tool that helped me to get the job done right.

The level app, found in the Measure app of iOS is always there when you need
it; so take it for a quote, spin, quote, the next time you need to level up.
