First swipe down to the bottum of the page and choose the type of thing you are scanning with the app. The app usually defaults to short text. flick up or down on the picker until you hear document. Then hold the phone flat over the document you wish to read and the app will give you some guidance such as left edge not visible or bottum edge not visible. Move your phone around until the app says hold steady and it will take a picture play some music and then show your ocr results. If the hold steady command does not happen, you can take the picture manually by double tapping the take picture button on the screen. If you instead decide to use short text, then just hold the phone up over the thing to be read and the app will begin reading any text that it finds.
