Give this a try: Go to the contact you want to delete, but don't open it or anything, only highlight / select it. The easiest way is to do a single finger triple tap on the contact and you will find the Close context menu or delete button, or do a single finger double tap and hold on the contact and you get the same options. They're either Close context menu or Delete.
