Until the bill is passed and the president signs it to make our laws up
to date that won't happen. As it looks like it may not pass the senate
for another year. The FCC has gone as far as they can and the bill is
setting there to be passed, which is number s2494, but as close as we
are to the end of the year for bills to be passed I have my doubts.
Then the information and bill will have to be put back on the table for
the Senate to pass and be signed by our president. As it stands there
isn't a law that forces all shows on any streaming service to be
required in this means of having Audio Description. If you wish to see
the action going on sign up the email list that I posted earlier today.
The subscription for that list is adp-list+subscr...@acblists.org.

Hello, my friend.
Yes, I use the image and camera description features on both my Apple and

I had forgotten about such features when I posted.
Still, I am dismayed that AD is not yet a standard option for all series being
produced, these days.

Mark, you write:
I will not be impress by this so-called new AI generation until it, AI that is,
can be used to provide audio description to those of us who are blind or low
vision, on the fly.
If that happens it would of course be absolutely amazing, but not to be
impressed by it now probably means you have not use the Be My AI feature in the
Be My Eyes app. I am also somebody who is not all that easily impressed any
more, but every time I request a description of a photo on my iPhone or one I
just took, I am impressed all over again and I can't wait until it's possible
to submit short videos using Be My AI which hopefully will be possible at some
point.

Subject: One Question to Paramount Plus Subscribers
Hello All,
Okay, I just want to make certain that the Paramount Plus app for iOS / iPad /
Apple TV is still accessible with the audio description feature, as of today,
in iOS 17 and its associated operating systems.
I purchased the first episode of Star Trek, Picard, on Prime Video, today, and
was surprised at how compelling the first episode was. I did not think it
would be as good as the big 4, if you know what I mean; but I was pleasantly
surprised.
Despite the fact that Prime listed the series as having an AD track, the first
EP, does not; at least it does not have one in Prime.
And you can forget about an AD track in iTunes. So disappointed.
I know that a while ago, a list member informed us that Apple does not offer
the AD track for Picard but I was hoping that this would change, alas, it has
not.
Even though I enjoyed watching the first EP of Picard, without AD, I know I
will enjoy the series, more completely, with AD.
So, as kind of an early Christmas gift to myself, I have decided to subscribe
to Paramount Plus, at least until I have seen all of Picard.
Of course I can and will sign up for the 7-day free trial but I don't want to
provide info to yet another company unless I am reasonably certain that it will
provide the expected service.
It's really quite sad that, even in late 2023, audio description is so scarcely
available.
If you will allow me to wax philosophically for a moment:
I will not be impress by this so-called new AI generation until it, AI that is,
can be used to provide audio description to those of us who are blind or low
vision, on the fly.
All replies greatly appreciated.
Mark
