Hi Alison,

I guess we're dealing with differences between UK versus American English words. I think of backdating as relating to documents as opposed to rolling back to a previous software or app version.

Sorry for my confusion.

My original message with the subject line of Bacckdating related to my difficulty in double tapping since the latest upgrade of IOS and wondering if there were any reasons why I shouldn’t backdate.

I learnt from this list that this would no longer be an option but Chris, I believe it was, came up with a solution to my problem.

I'm perplexed why what seems to be a majority of list members seem to have such a problem composing meaningful subject lines. I haven't followed this entire thread but the messages I've read seem to have nothing to do with backdating.

For those having issues with your double taps not executing since upgrading to iOS 17, go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, and go to the bottom of the screen to double tap time-out. I believe the iOS 17 upgrade reset this time to .25 seconds which requires a pretty fast double tap to execute. Execute the increment button in this setting to make it bigger to a setting that works best for you.

And please be specific and accurate with your subject lines for those who manage their email by subjects or who actually use the list archives.

Thanks for the tip, I just increased it to what you said, now I have to see how that goes over the next couple of days, but if it fixes the issue then this would be great although I still think Apple Accessibility should get an email from at least 8 out of 10 Voiceover users holding them accountable for screwing this up.

I find at times I have the same issue on my Apple Watch Ultra 2.it is definitely changed

This might be the setting that you are refering to, but I was experiencing the same thing, and I went to Settings, Accessibility, Voiceover, and at the bottom of that screen you will find, Double Tap Time Out.  If you go into there and set it to 0.50 or more.  I did this, and it totally did away with the problem.

Hope this helps.

A friend said she’d been told that going into settings, Accessibility  and then voice and changing response from 1.10 to 1.04 helped, and I have tried this, and thought initially it had helped but after an afternoon of frustration again, I’m not sure it has.

Yes, this is certainly a bit of an issue for me as well although it is not as bad as in the beginning and it’s almost gone in iOS 17.2 which as I said should be out maybe not next week, but the week after that.

Anyways, downgrading is not possible any more so you’ll have to put up with it until it gets fixed, hopefully you wrote to Apple Accessibility and request in strong but nice words that this really needs to be fixed.

I am currently using 17.1 ad since upgrading the focus keeps jumping, so when I go to delete a message, I find myself on a different message. It is often unresponsive to my taps, some apps being more prone to this than others, like Duo Lingo.

My friend has upgraded and has none of these issues, which is strange, but I am currently finding it very frustrating.

The time to go back to iOS 16 has long passed, this is only possible for a short while after a major new version of iOS comes out, but Apple stops signing the older versions usually after a few weeks. Having said this, which iPhone do you have and what exactly are you not happy about with iOS 17? iOS 17.2 is probably being released in the next couple of weeks and it takes care of a few more issues and with the exception with the double tap sometimes registering as a single tap, I have very few other problems at this stage.

Here is an article from Mac Rumors regarding the downgrading:

Downgrading an iPhone From iOS 17 to iOS 16 is No Longer Possible

Wednesday October 4, 2023 9:17 pm PDT by

Joe Rossignol

Following the release of iOS 17.0.3 earlier today, Apple has stopped signing iOS 16.6.1,

iOS 17, and iOS 17.0.1, preventing iPhone users from downgrading to any of those software versions. Apple continues to sign iOS 17.0.2 for now.

Notably, this means that it is no longer possible to downgrade an iPhone from iOS 17 to iOS 16. It is not possible to downgrade to iOS 16.7.

Apple routinely stops signing older iOS releases over time in order to prevent users from downgrading to previous software versions.

iOS 17.1 is expected to be released later this month.
