I will be observant next time to figure out if more than one thing makes 
contact. I do not think that is happening, but it is a suggestion worth looking

The only thing I can think of is that something else is touching the screen, 
like your face or another finger, so a single touch is being interpreted as a 
split tap. If the focus is on the end call button then this will terminate the 
call. I'm not sure if this is what's happening or not. It's just speculation on 
my part.
