The charging information can get strange if the bluetooth pairing did not fully 
work.has benn my experience.

There is a reset process that involves keeping the AirPods case  plugged in for 
a couple hours followed by a long press of the button on the back. There is 
more to this than what I just described, so   work with support either by 
downloading the appropriate instructions or contacting Apple Support. 
I generally start my support issues with Apple in the Apple Support app which 
has to be downloaded from the app store.

A AirPods case will not charge an AirPods it doesn’t own, or at least that
