There is now unfortunately other printer/scanner on the system so that
well may be why such problem.
A 'nuclear option' I trust not but I may have to resort to such.

just a final query on the printer as I've managed to send the document
concerned to Dropbox and forward it on through my PC.
So I'm now trying to connect my HP printer getting it on line and I'm asked to
go to settings and connect from there.
I see the printer name there but am unsure what password they require.
I tried the home WiFi password gbut that didn't work for me I'm afraid.
