You start at the very bottum of the screen and you swipe up with one finger.  When you touch the bottum of the screen you should hear a little tone from voiceover.  Begin swiping up with your finger.  About a quarter way up the screen, you should hear another tone that is the tone for unlocking the screen or just otherwise going to the home screen. If you stop swiping at this point, you should be on the home screen.  If you keep swiping up to about half way up the screen, voiceover will make another tone which means that you are about to access the app switcher.  If you stop swiping at this point, you will be taken to the app switcher.  Using the same gestures from the top of the screen will activate the  notification center and the control center:  The notification center is first.  for this, you touch the an icon on the top of the screen like the clock or the icon for your signal level or the name of your phone carrier and then swipe down from there.
You could also create a custom gesture for unlocking the screen as I and some of the other people on this list have done:  "For this, you go to settings, accessibility voiceover,  then commands and then touch commands.  Then you select the gesture that you want to use double tap it and swipe through the list until you find the action that you want to assign to the gesture.  I copied another off of this list and assigned the gesture of a two finger swipe right as the gesture to go to the home screen and the two finger swipe left to activate the app switcher.  I really like this setup its really fast and easy to use.  Also note that in order to avoid having to put in a pass code, you will have to disable this requirement in settings.  Otherwise, you will still have to put in a code or password every time that you want to unlock your phone.

I unlock my phone with face ID. I use my passcode when I don’t get face ID to work which doesn’t happen often. Good luck.

When I had my old phone I was envious of VoiceOver users who could easily unlock their phones by swiping up.  When I upgraded to my 16APlus, I was looking forward to not always having to  type my pass code whenever  I was unlocking my phone. I have tried repeatedly to do it and it’s just not working.

So I am asking you to tell me how you do it. How many fingers do you swipe up with? Where on the screen do you begin  the gesture? how far up do you go? Thanks so much.
