And I really liked it when Ring made it possible to set it up so whenever
somebody presses the button on the doorbell, the phone rings like when a phone
call comes in and allows you to answer the same as a phone call
Before I sometimes found it hit and miss to answer in time.

Subject: RE: Accessible video doorbell to replace a Ring product

Ty for this. I know Amazon’s basically a dystopian hellscape of data harvesting
and surveillance, but I’m leaning towards just sticking with Ring. Their app is
accessible enough and the promised facial recognition (privacy issues aside)
sounds like it could be helpful if it too will somehow be accessible. The
current device was wired, so will probably go with something similar. I think I
came across one of their newer models for around $250 give or take. The more
expensive Ring models are most likely overkill for the wife’s and my needs.
It really feels odd to not have a video doorbell for this past day that we’ve
been without one. I absolutely dislike opening the front door blindly (pun
intended) now.
We got this video doorbell after some guy came to the house selling bottled
water and after he realized I was blind, wanted to bust out his anointed oils
and pray with me and was hard pressed to take no for an answer. By the time I
was able to close the door, I was so pissed. My wife of course thought it was
hilarious and couldn’t stop laughing. That was the last straw.

Hi Cristóbal,

There plenty of video doorbells out there, but I can’t speak to the apps for
most of them. I also have a Ring Pro which is wired and at my store we have
what used to be a Nest video doorbell (now Google).
The Google Home app is also pretty accessible, but if I had to replace my
camera at home I would probably stick with Ring, they just announced new
cameras as well as 2 new video doorbells, here is the text only from the email
I received:

Welcome to next-level front door security.
Meet our newest and most advanced Video Doorbells yet. Get either 2K or 4K
clarity along with Low-Light Sight and 3D Motion Detection. Discover the best
way to see every visitor and delivery.

Wired Doorbell Pro (Newest Model)
Front door protection boldly evolved and imaginatively redesigned.
Retinal 4K: From faces to license plates, 4K resolution shows you everything
that matters.
10x Enhanced Zoom: Bring critical details into sharp focus with just a pinch of
the screen.

Wired Doorbell Plus (Newest Model)
Stay connected with confidence through some of the best features possible.
Retinal 2K: Get crisp, true-to-life video of your home, anytime and anywhere.
4x Enhanced Zoom: See every detail in full view and manually zoom in up to 4x.

Actually looking at their website some of these new cameras can get pretty
expensive, the “Wired Doorbell Elite (2nd Gen)” features retinal 4K resolution
and the above mentioned 10X zoom, it also uses POE (power over thernet) so you
would have to have a CAD6 cable at your front door, but this means it’s wired
to your router both for signal and power and I assume this would probably make
it very reliable with the lowest possible lag. It is, however, also $449 US and
possibly has features soe of us don’t need.

The Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) which also has a POE connection drops to
$319.99. It seems to have most of the features of the Elite except some ability
to integrate with a gate intercom for gated access to your home/driveway, here
is what they say about it:
• Retinal 4K with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom — Catch detail even at a distance
with wide-angle 4K video.
• Live View & Two-Way Talk with Audio+ — See, hear, and speak to who’s there in
real time with our enhanced sound quality.
• 3D Motion Detection — Receive more precise alerts with radar-powered motion
detection.
• Low-Light Sight — Get a full-color view in the near-dark.
• Video Descriptions — Know what's up at a glance with notifications that
describe exactly what's happening when motion is detected.

There are also battery powered versions of some of these doorbells like the
Plus and pro I think and I don’t know if they might get deals for Black Friday
since they appear very new.

Subject: Accessible video doorbell to replace a Ring product

Hello list,
So it appears my nine year old Ring video doorbell finally gave up the ghost.
Before I simply replace it with another Ring product, I thought I’d ask if
anyone’s using an alternative video doorbell that is reliable and has a solid
accessible iOS app.
