Hello, I have used Face ID for a number of years to unlock my iPhone successfully since my iPhone 12 Pro Max.
However, since updating to iOS27 RC I have found it to be significantly less reliable with my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Earlier I chose Settings, General and Software Update and disabled the option to receive beta updates to iOS. Checking for updates I was offered and downloaded an update of around 800Mb. Since applying this update Face ID has worked far more reliably. So it would appear some change between the RC version and the public release has taken place. For anyone who relies on Face ID and shares my findings with the RC, disable Beta updates and check for updates and see if your findings echo mine.
