Ok, a real reboot did, or seems to have done the trick; it's back up to speed now TG! Glad it was so simple. Why is hardly an issue though suspect fragmented memory after all the starting and stopping of randomly selected apps over a period of time. Seems a good idea to do this occasionally anyway.
Bet there's bound to be rogue apps out there with poor memory management, failing to release memory back to the stack in particular.
