Hi Joseph and anyone else interested. Whatever changes happen to the list will be after Cara Quinn, the list owner and I talk about it. I won't do a survey since the running of the list and the details of it is not a democracy. If any changes happen or don't happen, people are welcome to leave or join the list as they see fit. Also, I completely disagree with the suggestion of off topic warnings or hash tags since that to me would just invite more off topic postings. On the other hand I completely agree that if people just take the time to think about what they post before they post it, it would greatly cut down on off topic or useless messages. Note that valid, on topic questions, and debates of iOS apps, Voice Over, iDevices, and the like are completely welcome. It's things like thank you messages, ethics of tipping, whether one app should be used by all or boycotted by others, non-iOS questions, and rude comments if someone doesn't agree with what's said, which tends to drive many list members nuts.

If you or anyone else is interested in discussing this further, please email me off list since when I first wrote this message, it was to remind people about one liners and thank you messages, not to open a debate of what changes, if any, should be made to the list.

Thanks, and take care.

Hi Raul,
I've seen this function on Google Groups before. Personally, I propose
we hand out a survey about drastic changes like this. Another
"short-term" solution could be to ask people to write some hash tags
when the person feels it is off topic message. However, I think the
greatest solution is if members think about their posts before being
sent to this list and other mailing lists as well, which could cut down
bandwidth (somewhat).
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: thank you, thank you, I agree, yes, no

Hello all. It's about that time again to remind people that thank you
messages sent to the list are considered off topic. This is because if
you want to show your gratitude to the person who gave you the answer to
life, the universe, and everything, it's best sent to that person
directly rather than to the entire list. If there are 1400 members on
list, and you are one of them, that leaves 1399 members. If you are
sending a thank you message for 1 or 2 people, then over 1300 members
are getting blasted with this kind of message and it just adds to the
already high traffic on list. Yes, I agree that saying thank you is a
form of politeness, and considering some of the messages of late on
whether to tip or not, it's painfully obvious that some list members
still act like children, but still, please send your thank you, I agree
messages, or similarly worded ones, directly to the sender when warranted.

Thank you!
