Hi List,

I'm a VoiceOver user, but I have a student who is a Zooms-only user on an
iPad 4. We seem to be running into the occasional conflict/freeze when/if
we attempt to turn on VO and Zooms at the same time, and, besides, its a
bit of a pain to have to constantly go into the Accessibility Settings to
turn VoiceOver on/off just to read books. (I definitely miss the days when
a triple tap of the Home key could be set to ask you what you wanted to
turn on or off.)

Anyway, here is my question. This student will be using Zooms 100% of the
time, and we'd rather not force her to have to turn VoiceOver on/off
whenever she wants to hear an ebook read out loud. Most/all of her ebooks
will be purchased from the iTunes store, and thus will be in a protected
epub format. Does anyone know of an app out there that could read iTunes
purchased/protected ebooks out loud/via voice, but NOT use VoiceOver to do
this? I know that this can be done in iBooks with VoiceOver turned on, but
we're trying not to have to force her to dig through Settings to get into
Accessibility to turn VO on/off, and the Home button needs to be set to
operate Zooms for her. I looked at NaturalReader, but it doesn't seem to
do protected epubs/mobis, and Read2Go does epubs/mobis, but not protected
ones purchased legally from iTunes. Is there a way, or an app, that will
allow Zooms users to have legally purchased iTunes/Amazon ebooks read aloud
to them without having to root around through
Settings/General/Accessibility each time they need to turn VO on/off just
for a book. I know that would be too much of a pain for me to bother with
personally.

Thanks for any help/advice!

Amy

P.S. I know about audiobooks as I'm an avid audiobook/Audible reader
myself, but I wondered if there was a way to give her the option of either
an ebook or an audiobook, which is the same option that I personally have
using VoiceOver.
