I am afraid you are wrong on that one. I grew up in Germany with A4 and A3 paper as part of my school supplies. A4 is 210 mm wide by 290 mm long. In fact, if you put an A4 piece of paper on an 8.5x11 inch letter size piece of paper here in North America it is ever so slightly narrower and a bit more than that longer. In inches (to the fourth decimal) it is 8.2677 inches wide by 11.4173 inches long. This means just aa hair over 8 and a quarter wide or less than a quarter inches narrower than 8.5x11 inch paper and a little less than half an inch or just over 1 cm longer. Anyhow, for all intents and purposes of the Standscan it really makes no difference.
