I find that if you turn on grid in camera, options, grid. With grid turned on,
you get the help as to which way to move the camera to center the face. Note:
it works slowly but it will tell you sooner or later. Still, it's an
interesting idea.

  Srikanth,

It's odd, because my Camera app doesn't tell me if the object is in the
center, right corner or left corner. Is there something that needs to be
tweaked in the settings for this to work?

  Best,
  Dmitriy

To make sure I understand correctly - you're asking if TapTapSee can
incorporate the autofocus that the regular iPhone camera uses? Correct me if
I'm wrong. I want to make sure we're on the same page.

        Hi Dmitriy,

I was just wondering about something here out and decided to run it
past everybody. Is there a way to use that chirping sound used to notify the
user they have the object in focus expanded. The photo app on iPhone can tell
you that the face is centered or low, lower right-hand corner etc. Can that be
taken advantage of to help the user center what ever has focus and would that
result in better results? Like I said, just out loud and outside the box.

        Regards,

        Alan

          Pinky,

TapTapSee is a free app designed to help the blind and visually
impaired identify objects they encounter in their daily lives. Simply double
tap the screen to take a photo of anything and hear the app speak the
identification back to you (Note: Spoken identification requires VoiceOver to
be turned on).

When you first open TapTapSee a Privacy Notice pops up that needs to
be accepted for you to use the app. Once it's accepted you're taken into the
app, which consists of a camera and four buttons at the top of the screen -
Repeat, Library, Share and About.

To take a picture simply double tap on the screen and wait for the
identification to come back to you. This will take seven to 10 seconds,
depending on your network connection. The image gets sent out to our server
where it is processed and then given a tag that is sent back to the user's
device. The VoiceOver in the device speaks the identification back to the user.

TapTapSee also includes the following four features:

The Repeat button was developed in case the identification was missed
by the user on the initial response.

The Library button allows the user to access the device's Camera Roll
in order to send images to TapTapSee for identification. To access this feature
simply click on the Library Button and then proceed to select an image that you
want to have identified from the Camera Roll (Note: If access to the Camera
Roll is denied then the Privacy Settings must be changed on the device).

The Share button gives the user the ability to Share the image via
Email, Twitter or Facebook. The Share button also includes the option for the
user to save the image to the device's Camera Roll and more.

TapTapSee gives users a general identification of the images.
However, if for example, the user takes a picture of a can of soup and wants to
know the name of the brand, the application will be able to read the label and
return the identification with the brand name. Nevertheless, keep in mind that
TapTapSee will only be able to recognize the objects that are within the
camera's scope. Sometimes it take a bit of playing around with TapTapSee to get
the desired identification.

TapTapSee also has a Focus notification sound that can be turned ON
and OFF as desired in the About screen. Once an object comes into focus, the
app makes a sound to notify the user that it's in the optimal position to take
a photograph.

TapTapSee gives the user the ability to take up to three images at a
time to be identified. However, the total amount of images taken for
identification are unlimited.

Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

          Best,

          Dmitriy

I think Tap Tap See is just fine the way it is. In my experience
with apps, if you have a really good app that works great, the first thing that
happens is people start saying things like well it's a great but it would be
even better if it did what ever. Then somebody else says the same thing etc.
Next thing you know, a good app becomes more trouble then it's worth. Instead,
why not make a new app and perhaps call it advanced features Or be able to
select which features the user wants in settings. Tap Tap See is a great app
and I hope it doesn't throw the baby out with the bath water trying to be all
things to all people.
