I have had the problem in the pass. More so with the Iphone than the IPad. What i found is that it usually take a while to load all the recent twits. This also mean, it takes longer to load all the twits if you have loads on your home timeline.
I would suggest to wait for a couple of seconds before you read your home timeline ones you have the app going. I think, part of the problem is that voiceover can't focus on a particular timeline when the twits are still loading. Just my 0.02 sense worth of suggestion.
