I tried that as well and it didn't fix the problem.

I once had a similar problem on my iPhone 4S, back when I was running IOS5.
I just turned the phone off and back on and it solved the problem.

I bought a Ipod touch 5th generation about three months back. As of a
couple of days back, the speaker in it is distorded when listening to any
audio. I don't have this problem when using headphones. I phoned Apple
support and they told me to do a software restore to correct the problem.
Has anyone else run across this problem?
