Hi all, Just to close out this thread regarding the Vons online shopping and delivery experience...
My delivery was set from 12 noon to 1 PM, and the delivery guy rang my doorbell at about 12:10PM--very timely. He asked me where I wanted my stuff placed, and he carried all my groceries inside and placed them on the kitchen table. All groceries were in plastic bags just as someone would have them if he or she would have Purchased in-store. Out of extreme curiosity, the first thing I did was to check for damaged stuff <Smile>, so I reached for the eggs--not a single crack! The bred was in original condition. Not a single jar was broken. All frozen and chilled food such as juices and milk were refrigerated on their way to my home. Very, very impressive! We talked a little as he was here about 8 minutes or so, and he conveyed that this service is growing very quickly. He told me there are 3 other drivers in my area. I did not have to tip him per website info, but I did offer him a bottle of water which he took. Earlier this morning I checked the delivery status via my Vons iPod Touch 5th gen app, and it stated that my delivery was no longer due for delivery, which made me worry a bit. It then hit me that because my card had just been charged earlier today, the transaction was now complete. I do wish I would have been sent an email message stating that my groceries were on their way, but I guess I can always quickly launch the Vons app on my iPod and confirm this same information. Indeed, I looked in the "Completed orders" section of the screen and there was my transaction; it was no longer pending, it was listed as completed. Before the driver left he asked me to sign a receipt, but I asked him to simply place an X on the signature line and sign it for me, and he agreed. I hate signing for stuff! Its so slow! I'm definitely going to start using this service on a regular basis from now on. Its quick, its easy, its accessible, and no more relying on others or dealing with transportation. I'm a very happy camper! I jumped on the Vons website. It was very accessible and easy to navigate using Jaws 14 and Internet Explorer 10. http://shop.safeway.com/ecom/home I placed my order. You must submit an order no less than $50. My first delivery will be free, but average delivery fee ranges from $9 to about $13 as well as many $3 discounts or free shipping depending on many variables such as same-day delivery or 2 or 3 day delivery, and coupons etc. Since I'm a new online delivery shopper, they gave me a free 24-pack of bottled water and a whole bunch of rolls of paper towels--very nice of them. After I completed my order and received the confirmation messages regarding delivery time (tomorrow between 12 noon and 1PM), I decided to search iTunes for a Vons app. Sure enough, there was an app for that! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vons-delivery/id632240419?mt=8 I installed the app, and so far it appears to be 100% accessible. I can confirm that my shipment is on its way and time of delivery. I can cancel the order, and I can review shopping history. I've not explorered any further in terms of placing my orders using the app, but I'm sure it will be very easy to do so as I need only click on my shopping history and order the same items. I figure it will be much easy to shop around at Vons using a full browser, so I didn't completely explore the app more than just cursorily, but I'm sure one can accomplish the same major app tasks during down-time such as sitting around waiting for someone or waiting for a ride. In short, this Vons home delivery service was a great shopping experience, and I now don't have to look for a ride or catch a taxi to purchase groceries. I don't know if prices are any more or less than at a grocery store, but I doubt it since prices seemed to compare to how much I've paid for these items while at a physical store. Oh yeah, I actually saved about $15 as some items were on sale and there were many "5 for the price of 2" types of sale items. The cost and little sales items are conveyed to you as you pick out an item. There are links that show you nutritional information in an accessible format. While learning the layout of the website, it must have taken me about 2 hours to actually learn the layout and complete all of my shopping, and the website never crashed once! I simply couldn't resist, so I bought myself a box of morning cereal I've not eaten in what might be decades. ...Don't want to embarrass myself, but let's just say "They're grrrrrreate!"
