I've only ever used the free version of Pandora, so I don't know how it compares to the paid version, but you are only allowed to skip so many songs in the free version of Pandora every hour. I know you also get a lower bit rate in the free version over the paid version. I don't think it effects how many stations you can have. I have around eight in the free version as well.
