Kimmy,

A split tap does the same as a double tap except that instead of lifting
your finger and then tapping twice quickly you leave your finger on the
screen and then tap the screen elsewhere with another finger. If, for
example, you want to open the App Store, you can find the app, then when
Voiceover says App Store you can lift your finger which leaves focus on the
App Store and double tap anywhere on the screen. To do the same with a split
tap, find the App Store icon, then when you found it and Voiceover says App
Store, leave your finger on it and tap the screen elsewhere with another
finger.

You can always do a 4-finger double tap in iOS 7 which starts Help and now
you can try various gestures and taps and Voiceover will tell you which
gesture you performed. If, for example, you want to practice a 3-finger
double tap which mutes speech and you do this in the practice area and
Voiceover says "Screen curtain on or off", you know you actually did a
triple tap and not a double tap.

Regards,
Sieghard

Thanks for that. But pardon my ignorance, what's a split tap? The reason I
don't like standard typing, because you have to top to get the letter as
opposed to lifting your finger when you reach the character you want, but
I'll certainly try that. Thanks.

Hi Kimmie and others.

If you leave your finger on a character too long as might be the case in the
new IOS7 keyboard, and if the new characters prompt is presented, try
this...

When you hear "alternative characters available" simply split tap somewhere
on the keyboard and the prompt will disappear. Make sure to move your finger
elsewhere or else the same prompt will pop up--just split tap again to make
the prompt disappear.

By the way, if you use "Standard typing," which you can access through the
rotor, you will not have this problem. If you get yourself into the habit of
using your middle-finger to find characters and split-tapping with your
index or ring finger, you will be surprised at just how fast you will be
able to type using this standard typing keyboard.

Yes I find this a pain too, because you have to lift your finger up, and
then delete the character you didn't want.

Hi all. I have found that when trying to type anything in ios7 if you leave
your finger on a letter for to long like maybe a second vo will bring up
some extra characters. is there any way to get rid of this?since I find it
very annoying. from Mich.
