Siri seems to work pretty much the same for me, whether VoiceOver is on or off. And, most of the time, I do get an answer relative to the question I've asked. The difference for me, though, is in the amount of information that is spoken, as opposed to just being shown on the screen.

When I asked the temperature in iOS 6, Siri would speak the temperature and current weather conditions, and I'm thinking even the predicted high and low temperatures for the day. But, in iOS 7, just the temperature is spoken, and one has to use VoiceOver to find out if it is cloudy or sunny or rainy. If I asked Siri to calculate a fifteen percent tip on twelve dollars, I got the actual answer and other information spoken to me in iOS 6, but I just get told here is what I got, and then need to use VoiceOver to find the information in iOS 7. But, then, if I ask Siri how many feet in a mile, the question is actually answered, and then there is more information shown on the screen, should I want to use VoiceOver to read it.

Oh, grin, I'm still using my iPhone 4S. I had thought to go to the AT&T store yesterday on my every other Wednesday off and see about trading in my 4S for a 5s, but decided I had better hold off a bit and see what happens with the government shutdown first. So, in the meantime, I'm off from work and finally getting caught up on all my email.

For me, what I get from Siri with VoiceOver on or not on seems to be quite random. I can ask it the same question with and without VoiceOver and there doesn't seem to be a difference. The difference is the time of day when I ask the question, and this depends on a lot of things. Sometimes when I ask for temperature, I will hear the temperature in madison is X. Sometimes, I will simply hear the temperature. So the answer to the same question can change and it seems, at least for me, that it is not voiceover specific.

Hi Chris and others,

I have seen a lot of people reporting that apparently for them SIRI works better if Voiceover is turned off. While SIRI sometimes tells me it can't take a request or do something, usually it works as it should when it does
things.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anybody has actually taken the time to document this behavior in detail and submitted it to accessibil...@apple.com which should be the first thing that comes to mind if something doesn't work and
seems to be so because of Voiceover.

Regards,
Sieghard

I, too, have been experiencing problems with siri's responsiveness. I am quite the loose-leaf tea addict, so have to set fairly specific
timers for my tea to brew. When using IOS6, I could simply say
"siri, please set my timer for four minutes and thirty seconds" and she would do it instantly. ever since upgrading, I'll ask siri to perform the same task (politely of course, because I'm a Canadian
and that's how we roll), and then i'm usually met by a stoney
silence. I follow that up by frantically swiping around the screen, and after a bit more silence, will hear things like "things you can tell me. Ask "Where's Brian?" and not only do I not know Brian, I honestly couldn't give two flying you know what's about where he is at the moment. While this very uninspiring exchange is taking place
between siri and myself, my tea is sitting there steeping
confusedly, and then I just manually set a timer and try to account for
the fight I just had with siri.

What gives?

It was amazing even my Husband's 5 seems slower than her phone but then she has no apps but the ones supplied, only had it less than
24 hours and had no clue about apps.

Hi,

This isn't true 100% of the time. If I tell Siri "Tell Mary I will
give
her
a call in an hour." At least for me, most of the time the message is read back. The times when it isn't, its because VO interrupts it for some reason. In this case, I place my finger on the screen,
and flick to
the
edit field and VO reads the message. I find the error rate to be
on
par
with that found in IOS 6, Maybe a little bit better. But that
isn't were Siri is really giving people a lot of headaches though. Its Siri actually processing your requests. This failure rate is way up in IOS 7. I would say its near the levels when it made its
debut on the iPhone 4S.

For those of you using Siri and iOS 7, here are a few questions

I understand that Siri no longer reads back the text it has

because Siri reads it back.
I have found that the error rate is very good in iOS 6. So most of
the
time, I don't have to hunt for anything to correct it, making the read back by far the most efficient means of knowing if my text is
okay.
So, how is the error rate in iOS 7 compared with that of iOS 6? It
seems
that there are varying reports on this topic. I use dictation a
lot, such as in this message. And I will not upgrade if the ability to use it to write longer messages is seriously degraded. Yet one
more reason to wait.

Also, when using dictate in messaging, I sometimes have to move

Hi all,

I'm wondering if Siri's performance differs between various
countries, or even within the same.

We have noted an increased speed and performance when it comes to
asking Siri a question but it seems that dictation has taken
quite a step backwards for myself and other friends with whom
I've spoken
here
in
the UK.
First, the time between dictating and text appearing at my end is definitely much slower and is also less accurate. In addition I'm sometimes not sure if dictated text has been processed because of
the lack of speech from Siri who doesn't read aloud text as
processed or even
say "Done".
Have you noticed these things, do you know why we should
experience these difficulties and do you agree that this should
be reported to
Apple?
