So, David, have you used this technique successfully with the BARD app?
I managed to scroll it to the letter G, but no further.

bard website using the app

I am sure people are getting tired of me always talking about how blind
people are using the touchscreen. However, this is my research, so I am
continually studying it.

When using a long picker, what often happens is the finger stops moving so
much vertically, so VO eventually interprets the touch location on the
iDevice rather than the flick. For myself, if I slow down a little and pay
close attention, I do not lose the picker, no matter how long it is. That
said, it is frustrating and tiresome to maintain such careful focus. So, for
long pickers, I do the following. After VO has focus on the picker, I do a
double tap and hold (pass through gesture) near the edge of the display
across from the direction I want to move the picker. For instance, if I want
to move the picker up, I start just above the home button. After I hear the
ascending tones which signal pass through, I slide my finger straight toward
the opposite end of the display. I start somewhat slowly and accelerate my
speed slowly as I slide my finger. With VO sounds on, one will hear the
clicks as the picker turns. A neat thing about iOS (which was pointed out to
me by a sighted friend) is that the pickers continue spinning for a little
while after the finger leaves the display. The clicks go fast, then they
slow down and stop. With practice, I have become fairly good at causing the
picker to spin 60 to 70 choices per spin. Of course, one then needs to
either touch the picker's actual location (which is usually at the bottom of
the display, or flick away from and back onto the picker to see where it is
now.

After learning this last year, I have come to really enjoy pickers. Then
again, I am a kid at heart and enjoy making the wheel spin.

As to iOS 7, because the delay timing in VO has been decreased, one must be
more precise about one's actions before touching the display.

seems quite common with pickers where you are doing an on line order and
have to input your state using a picker. Buy.com comes to mind. By the time
I get to O for Oregon, I generally have to re-access that picker several
times, and the only way to do it is to double tap somewhere else in the form
to force VO focus there, then go back to the picker and try again. It is
frustrating, and it does not happen with all pickers for me.
