What AT&T introduced as 4G wasn't technically 4G, it was really 3.5G they used
their HBPA+ protacall & called it 4G. LTE is technically what is considered
4G... Instead of just calling it 4G the cell companies seem to feel the need to
add the LTE to it to make it sound so much better.

They’re different. LTE is the fastest cellular connection you can get, but
it’s not available everywhere, so as you travel you may shuttle between 4G and
LTE coverage.

  Subject: AT&T, 4G and LTE
Hi all, especially AT&T users with an iPhone 5 or higher,

This may seem like a stupid question, but I always tell my students that the
only stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked. So here goes. I've used
an iPhone 4 on AT&T for 2 and a half years with either wi-fi or 3g, and now
that I've had my 5S on AT&T for a couple of weeks now, I'm curious about
something. When I'm not connected to wi-fi and am out and about, sometimes my
status bar will say 4g, and other times it will say LTE. Is there a difference
between the two? What's 4g all about versus LTE, and why would I see one versus
the other?

  Thanks,

  Tom
