Hi Will, Just to avoid people getting comfused, there is no such thing as a "composit" cable that works with the Apple TV. The Apple TV has only 2 types of outputs, HDMI and Optical Audio. The HDMI which I assume you mean when you say "composit" is the connector which looks a little bit like a USB port and the single cable delivers both audio and video, HDMI stands for "High Definition Media Interface". The digital optical connector is a small square connector and it is also a digital signal, but it's audio only. Most modern receivers have both HDMI and optical audio inputs.
The term "composit" is actual the correct term for the old RCA connection, an analogue connection with 2 cables (usually put together in a single cable) and they are usually red and white for left and right channel. There are also 3-lead cables which were used by old VCR players in addition to a third connector which would deliver the video signal Later DVD players had "component" video which was a digital signal as far as I know and a single cable with 3 leads was used and the video signal was broken up in its component colours, red, blue and green. Audio was usually still transmitted with these setups with a separate RCA/composit cable With red and white ends for left and right audio channels. -----Original Message----- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Wil James Sent: Sunday, December 22, 2013 9:27 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: apple tv and voiceover I would recommend the composite audio cable to hook up to your home theater system. That is how I have the Apple TV hooked to my Bose. It sounds a hell of a lot better. Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 22, 2013, at 12:08 PM, Larry Smith <larry.smith...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hi list. I ask for help in getting my new apple tv working with my LG hometheater system. I was able to get everything working. However, I wanted to pass on some information that may be helpful to others. I used the HDMI connection to connect the apple tv to my television. I then connected an optical cable from the television to the hometheater system. Voiceover is very sluggish when coming through the hometheater system. There is no sluggishness when coming through the television speakers. I have an HDMI connection on the hometheater system which I also tried running the apple TV through. The icons was visible on the television screen, but voiceover gave no feedback at all. > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. > > Post a new message to VIPhone by emailing viphone@googlegroups.com. > > Search and view the VIPhone archives by visiting http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/. > > Reach the VIPhone owner and moderators by emailing viphone+ow...@googlegroups.com. > > Unsubscribe and leave VIPhone by emailing viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > > More VIPhone group options can be found by visiting http://groups.google.com/group/viphone?hl=en. > --- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "VIPhone" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an email to viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/groups/opt_out. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
