I have tried and still can not figure out this game. I could use some help. Thanks.

I'm totally stumped by this game. I can't even get past the dog tutorial. Every time I try to move a letter, it tells me it's blocked off. Just plain double tapping also has no effect.

Hi, this is great. Am keeping this. It's clarifies a few things for me. Do you know how to start a new game while one is in progress?

Hello,
It has taken me a bit of time and some practice, but I think I know the game Spell Stack pretty good. I would be happy to answer questions, and help others start playing this great and challenging game.
Now I still do not know everything, but I will help in any way I can.

Here are some simple things:
* The game board is a 5 by 5 block square.

* If you use the roter wheel and switch virtical on, then this will make navigating the game board grid better. This will allow you to swipe up and down, and not just right and left. This comes in handy when looking at a particular column and seeing what letters are in it.

* To spell a word, the letters do not have to be in order. They just need to be touching.

* You move a letter by simply double tapping on it to select it. Then you go to the square you want to move it to and double tap that square, and the letter is moved to the new square.

* You can also move your opponents letters as long as their value is 0.

* As far as moving, it goes by columns. In moving a letter, you can only move the top letter of a column. So think of it as letters stacked in columns. So if you move a letter to an empty column, then that letter will automatically be put on the first square at the bottom in that column, no matter where in that column you try to place it.

* As far as points, this can vary depending on how your letters are placed. Letters gain points if they are touching and grouped together. A letter that is beside an opponents letter is worth less than a letter that is beside one of your own letters. For example. In the first move of a game, you normally have 5 letters across the last row of the game board. This means you can stack those letters however you want depending on what you want to spell. I normally use 3 to 4 letters for my first word. So I Will group those 4 letters together in a square, 2 letters per column. If you do this and notice, the points of each letter will normally go up.

* As a defensive move, it might also help to put the lower valued letters, which are normally more common inside your group of letters to help keep your opponent from stealing them, or accessing them to break your word.

* Stealing opponents letters: I think it increases the value of your word if you use one of your opponents letters in your word. You are only able to use an opponents letters if its unlocked.

* Breaking your opponents word: You can break your opponents current word by using one of the letters in their word in your new word. If you break your opponents current word, then this nullifies it, and your opponent will get 0 points for that turn. This is a good defensive way of keeping your opponent from scoring points from their current word. But now, sometimes you are not able to break your opponents word, depending on the placement of their letters, and if all of the letters they used are protected.

* Locked letters: You can sometimes unlock letters by surrounding a locked letter by your letters. This does not work all the time for me, so I am thinking it depends on the letter and its value. I think a letters value has to reach 0 before it is unlocked.

* Submitting a word: Now when you have your word ready to submit, the game will tell you to double tap the last letter of the word to submit, or you can use the submit button.

* Making a word: Remember when you submit a word, there has to be room on the board for the word to be made. If the game tells you that the word could not be made, then either the letters were not together, or there was just not enough room in that area of the board to make that word. As the board becomes more full, then of coarse, this becomes more of a factor.

* Now when the board does become full, then the board is emptied automatically, and the game will continue with the new board.

* I think position of letters has a big factor on how you do in this game. So it is recommendable that you study the board and move your letters to get the most points possible for each turn.

I hope all of this helps you learn the game better.

I agree with this, along with: how to move letters, when to let go of
the letters moved, etc. Perhaps some of these will be covered in
podcasts, but more details on how to do it in the game would be nice
too. The tutorial just tells me to "tap on the letters to move and
stack them." I am assuming the double tap and hold, but when I try
this, I am told that the square is locked and that I can't move a
letter there, but not why. Do I move the letters or the locked
squares? What are the advantages of doing each?

Wayne

It would help to have an overall description, I think. That is, how
are words formed - vertically, horizontally, diagonally? From where
do you get letters? How can you change the board to frustrate your
opponent? Can letters be stacked on top of each other in a single cell?

Hi

We're working on an updated to tutorial to make things clearer. A
couple of notes though:

-Pay attention to the popup at the start of a tutorial level! They
have the info on what the tutorial is trying to teach you. In the
next version we'll be clearer with the label that's in game.
-Letters in each column stack. If there's a letter above another
letter in a column you have to move the letter thats on top first.
-The game will try to move letters for you. Select the letters in
the word you want to make and the game will try to move them close
enough to make a word. if the game says "Can't Make Word" that means
the letters can't be moved in a way where you can submit a word.

We're working on making a play through of the game and if there's
anything else that confuses you about the game please let us know!

Nor can i. I'm not sure how to play, or what the overall goal of the
game is. The tutorial just presents a grid and tells you to spell a
word, but it offers no advice on how you are supposed to get those
letters in gameplay, what scores what, overall strategy, or
anything. I know the devs made sure it is accessible, but maybe they
left something out because I have no idea what this game is supposed to do.

Hi ViPhone,

This is Kwasi Mensah, the developer behind Stem Stumper, a game I
know a lot of people on this list enjoy. I wanted to let everyone
know that we just released our newest game SpellStack. It's this
awesome combination of Connect 4 and Scrabble that lets you play
your friends online that you can see in action here. You can
pick it up on the iTunes App Store right now. It's also out an
Android so you can play your friends across devices!

It's not quite an audio game. It's a word/strategy game that
we've spent a lot of time with VoiceOver to make accessible. I'm
going to be reaching out to podcasters to make sure there's a
good audio tutorial to help guide people through the learning
curve. But don't be afraid to email me any questions at
kwasi.men...@ananseproductions.com
