First of all, your segments shouldn't have to be very short though there definitely is a limit. I always think very carefully about what I want to say before starting dictation. This doesn't eliminate the need for segments but it does minimize it somewhat.
Secondly, it may help to navigate to the end of your segment and then do a space with the keyboard before continuing dictation; this should ensure that your next segment is in the right place. I think that in iOS 7 a change was made so if you inadvertently touch somewhere in your message the cursor may move there which results in misplaced segments whether typing or using dictation. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
