Actually, the price is the same. Cell phone companies subsidize the cost of the phone so customers can pay a low initial cost for the phone when they sign up for service. The companies make it back through high monthly bills.
Unfortunately, Apple never discounts new iPhones and finding them at non-Apple retailers is difficult.
