Hi Jim,

OK, I guess that is a valid reason. Let me know if you want my Garmin Glo, I
bought it last fall and never used it a lot. You can write me off-list at
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> . You are in Canada so while I’m out
west and you are out east it still would not be difficult to send it to you. We
can discuss it off list.

Regards,

Sieghard

Sieghard:

Thanks much for your post. I find that when my phone is on my belt and I have
a winter coat on, my signal dropps more frequently. I was thinking about
placing the external receiver on my Guide Dog’s harnace.

Again, thanks much.

Hi Jim,

Just out of curiocity, why would you want an external receiver?

I do have the Garmin Glo which works well, but I only thought I try it because
I’m a Garmin dealer and was able to get it for a bit less than the regular
retail price. To be honest I don’t find there is a significant improvement in
accuracy. I have not yet tested a scenario where I use a GPS app such as Seeing
Eye or BlindSquare for 2 hours without the external receiver and then do the
same with the external receiver to see if it really makes a big difference with
respect to battery life.

Keep in mind that most of the receivers that work with the iPhone cost $90 or
$100 and you could get an awesome external battery pack for that if battery is
your concern. As I said, the iPhone’s GPS receiver is a very good one and I
don’t think you’ll get much better accuracy with an external receiver.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi Gang:

Which external gps receivers are recommended for iPhones these days?

Thanks all over the place.
