Yes, it most certainly is possible. I'd suspect a problem with the battery itself in this case.

It is still possible that their is a defect in the persons phone. My
wife has a 5 and I have a 5s. She has nothing running where as I have
5 or 6 apps on, and Bluetooth on. My phone will run for a couple of
days without needing a charge while hers will only run for a few
hours. She can't go to work and make it home on a single charge.
Therefore I contend that a defect exists in her phone.

Q: Would a modern iPod Touch or iPad do this?

i ask as most don't have 3g or 4g coms too, so would then not be able to
do
Siri once networking was off.

The two biggest drains on the iPhone are the Bluetooth radio and WI_FI..
It's easy to tell Siri, turn bluetooth off and she'll say I turned
Bluetooth
off. Do the same with WI_FI. Those are the two biggest battery drains.
So
if you have no ear peace connected to Bluetooth and your away from your
home
network, you don't need the WI_FI either. And, it can quickly be turned
back on again when need be.

    Hi

Of course it's true that some apps use more power than others, but if a
phone is draining, then the most obvious explanation is that one app or
another is using the power and it's just an easy thing to eliminate.

In Mavericks, the battery menu shows you which apps are using significant
amounts of power. If there is a similar thing in IOS7, I haven't found it
yet.

Reducing screen brightness is a really good one too. I always thought it
counter-intuitive that the screen curtain didn't reduce power use, but
them's the breaks.

I have absolutely no authority to back this up, but I am convinced I
noticed a reduction in power usage on my 5s after I locked the screen
orientation.
