For me, the process of using OCR apps in iOS has always been a challenge. At best, I can get a few words, just enough to find out what the object is. I notice that I've gotten better with practice, but it's very rough going for me. I don't know how much of my difficulty has to do with never having had sight, but I'd imagine that generally, it's easier for those who've had sight, because finding the best visual situation for this task comes more easily to those who've had sight. Of course, I'm generalizing here, and I may be wrong. after all, I haven't done a formal study of this issue. :) I am continuing to practice, and I'm patient, but I have to say, the experience is certainly not like using a flat-bed scanner with an application such as Kurzweil 1000 or Open Book.
